KIDS E.A.T. 4 LIFE PROGRAM
About Our School and Parks Programs:
KIDS E.A.T. 4 LIFE
Connecting Cooking, Literacy, Social-Emotional Learning, and Parent Engagement.
Cooking With Gabby’s E.A.T. 4 LIFE program (Education, Activity and Total Health) is being implemented in local Los Angeles schools, supporting positive action plans along with methodologies that foster evidenced-based Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and Development (SED) through dance and fitness along with nutrition education and cooking, in both online and in-person, synchronous and asynchronous learning environments.
Our program provides the environment for the student to expand, foster and develop their levels of emotional intelligence, positive attitudes, persistence and relationship building and maintenance of skills in positive and social environments.
Cooking With Gabby provides after school enrichment programs tailored for K-12 students.
Cooking and Literacy:
Cooking With Gabby incorporates cooking activities that require reading recipes, measuring ingredients, and following instructions. This helps improve literacy skills as students read and comprehend the steps. Learning about different cuisines, cultures, and cooking techniques can enhance their vocabulary and comprehension.
Dance:
Incorporating dance into the program provides a creative and physical outlet for students. Through dance, students can express themselves, build confidence, and understand rhythm and movement, which can contribute to their overall well-being.
Math:
The program integrates math skills through activities such as measuring ingredients, converting measurements, and understanding proportions. By engaging in these tasks, students develop a practical understanding of mathematical concepts, which can enhance their problem-solving abilities.
Parent Engagement:
Cooking With Gabby invites parents and families to participate in cooking classes. This not only strengthens the family bond but also allows parents to be actively involved in their child's learning process. The parent engagement class finale is a notable example of this. Parents can share their own cooking stories or family recipes, providing a rich and diverse learning experience for the students. Students are provided with fresh ingredients and the recipe at the end of each class so that they can replicate the recipe at home with their families.
Social-Emotional Learning:
Cooking With Gabby promotes teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills through cooking activities. Students work in groups preparing a dish, which encourages collaboration and social interaction. Teaching students the significance of different dishes can also foster joy, empathy, and understanding of diverse cultures.
